February, 2008
I have been questioned many times over the years as to whether or not I did heating and cooling work. At one point I even considered branching out to include HVAC work as part of my services, but this never came to pass.
The good news is that I have a solid HVAC company that I have been referring work to for several years now. They service my own heating and cooling equipment. And since we are knee deep into the heating season, I thought that now would be a good time to talk a little about your heating considerations.
Check/Change Your Furnace Filter
According to Isaac Brewer of Brewer Mechanical Services, the primary reason for "no heat" calls during this time of year is dirty and clogged furnace filters. Check your filters periodically to ensure that they are clean and servicable. A dirty filter will also reduce the efficiency of your furnace.
Not Having A Programmable Thermostat Is Costing You $$$
Programmable thermostats aren't just another gadget for bragging rights. They actually serve a purpose by automatically controlling the operation of your furnace and air conditioner. Turn the heat back during the day when no one is home and at night when you go to bed. Adjust operating temperatures for each day of the week. Some even come with the ability to show the outside air temperature and adjust the humidity of your home.
By running your thermostat at a constant temperature 24/7, you are wasting energy and spending more money on your heating bill than you should.

Regular Service And Cleaning Can Make Your Furnace Last Longer
Your furnace should be serviced on an annual basis with the costs ranging from $69-89.00 unless you purchase an annual maintenance agreement or need additional parts. Just as changing the oil in your car will make your engine last longer, annual service for your furnace guarantees better efficiency and longer life.
Please call Isaac Brewer at Brewer Mechanical Services for your heating and cooling needs. He may be reached at 862-0261.
