The Child Friendly Bathroom™ was developed by David Heffner for both of his
daughters several years ago when they were gaining their independence as
toddlers. The features are:
1. Motion sensor for the light switch with an adjustable timer- When a child
enters the bathroom, the motion sensor detects their movement and turns the
light on. The timer is adjustable to stay on from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. This
motion sensor eliminates the need to have the parents turn the light on and then
off again when they are done.
2. Toto toilet with a soft closing toilet seat- Toto toilets are among the
best rated functioning toilets on the market today. The main concern with 1.6
gallon flushing toilets is that they become stopped up very easily. The Toto
performs well and stoppages are minimal. The toilet seat is made of plastic and
has hydraulic hinges that slowly close the seat and lid when they are tapped
from the standing or upright position. The soft closing seat is a safety feature
for small children and a convenience to all boys and men who get yelled at for
not putting down the seat when they are done using the bathroom.
3. Delta hands-free faucet- This faucet is equipped with a motion sensor that
will turn the faucet on when hands are placed underneath the spout. The water
will stay on for 30 seconds and then automatically shut-off to prevent the sink
from overflowing. Faucet handles are the single most source of germs in the
bathroom which is why so many children get sick in the wintertime. This faucet
not only helps to prevent the spread of germs (a health benefit for not only the
children, but the parents as well), but also prevents scalding (a safety
feature) and saves water (a conservation feature).
In summary, the CFB not only promotes health and safety in the bathroom for
children, but teaches independence as well. And although the name indicates use
for children, it benefits all ages and can be especially useful for seniors."
